The Abolition of Man/The Great Divorce - Audiobook on CD
By C.S. Lewis / Blackstone Audiobooks
In The Abolition of Man, CS. Lewis asks if we have been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us. He examines the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature. "St. Augustine," he explains, "defines virtue as ordo amoris, the ordinate condition of the affections in which every object is accorded that kind of degree of love which is appropriate to it. Aristotle says that the aim of education is to make the pupil like and dislike what he ought, When the age for reflective thought comes, the pupil who has been thus trianed in "ordinate affections" or "just sentiment" will easily find the first principle in Ethics; but to the corrupt man they will never be visible at all and he can make no progress in that science." Yet the modern educational system around him it seems, was bent on producing "men without chests" and calling them intellectuals. It is this unconscious transformation that Lewis uncovers and questions in this short and penetrating work. In The Great Divorce, C.S. Lews' classic vision of the Afterworld, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly English afternoon and embarks on an incredible voyage through Heaven and Hell. He meets a host of supernatural beings far removed frm his expectations, and comes to some significant realizations about the nature of good and evil. Unabridged. Read by Robert Whitfield. 4 CDs. 5 hours.

The Collected Letters of C.S. Lewis, Volume 2 : Books, Broadcasts, and the War, 1931-1949
By C.S. Lewis / HarperOne
C.S. Lewis was a prolific letter writer, and his personal correspondence reveals much for his private life, reflections, friendships, and the progress of this thought. This second of a three volume collection contains the letters Lewis wrote after his conversion to Christianity, as he began a lifetime of serious writing. Here we encounter a surge of letters in response to a new audience of laypeople who wrote to him after the great success of this BBC radio broadcasts during World War II--talks that would ultimately become his masterwork, Mere Christianity. Volume II begins with C.S. Lewis writing his first major work of literary history, The Allegory of Love, which established him as a scholar with imaginative power. These letters trace his creative journey and recount his new circle of friends, "The Inklings," who meet regularly to share their writing. This volume includes Lewis's correspondence with great writers such as Owen Barfield, Arthur C. Clarke, Sheldon Vanauken, and Dom Bede Griffiths. The letters address many of Lewis's interests--theology, literary criticism, poetry, fantasy, and children's stories--as well as reveal his relationships with close friends and family. But what is apparent throughout this volume is how this quiet bachelor professor in England touched the lives of many through an amazing discipline of personal correspondence. Hardcover, 1132 pages.

The Four Loves
By C.S. Lewis / Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Love has not one but many faces. C.S. Lewis, in this candid, wise and warmly personal book, describes the four basic kinds of human love--affection, friendship, erotic love, and the love of God. He explores the possibilities and problems of the love between parents and children, the love of men for other men and women for women; the love of men and women for each other; and the love of God that may enrich all love. Lewis also explores the questions of sex, possessiveness, jealousy, pride, false sentimentality, good and bad manners in loving, and the need for more laughter between lovers.

Lewis uses vivid and humorous illustrations to show these loves in action. 32-page study guide included. Introducti on and commentary by Charles Colson. Unabridged. 2 CDs.135 minutes.

The Grand Miracle
By C.S. Lewis / Random House, Inc
"Lewis struck me as the most thoroughly converted man I have ever met. Christianity for him was not a separate compartment of life...his whole vision of life was such that the natural and the supernatural seemed inseparably combined." Such are the words of Walter Hooper and seem apt for this this book which are a handful of essays that are profound and of a clarity that are a joyful exercise for the mind, heart, and soul. They are written with imagination and fidelity to the biblical faith. A must for a bookshelf that has a heart for Christian apologetics.

Letters to Malcolm
By C.S. Lewis / Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
In the form of warm, relaxed letters to a close friend, Lewis meditates on many puzzling questions concerning the intimate dialogue between man and God. Lewis considers practical and metaphysical aspects of prayer, such as when we pray and where. He questions why we seek to inform God in our prayers if He is omniscient, whether there is an ideal form of prayer, and which of our many selves we show to God while praying. The concluding letter contains provocative thoughts about "liberal Christians," the soul, and resurrection.

Rejecting the boundaries that divide Christianity's many denominations, C.S. Miracles - Audiobook on CD
By C.S. Lewis / Blackstone Audiobooks
"The central miracle asserted by Christians is the Incarnation. They say that God became Man. Every other miracle prepares the way for this, or results from this." This is the key statement of Miracles, in which C S Lewis shows that a Christian must not only accept but rejoice in miracles as a testimony of the unique personal involvement of God in his creation. Using his characteristic lucidity and wit to develop his argument, Lewis challenges the rationalists, agnostics, and deist on their own grounds and makes out an impressive case for the irrationality of their assumptions by positing: "Those who assume that miracles cannot happen are merely wasting their time by looking into texts: we know in advance what results they will find for they have begun by begging the question." Unabridged. Read by Robert Whitfield. 6 CDs. Over 6 hours.
