We use the term "Laodicea on the Lycus [River]" to distinguish this city from many others of the same name scattered throughout the former Hellenistic Seleucid kingdom. A French-Canadian team from Laval University has excavated the Nymphaeum and explored the rest of the site, but much of Laodicea remains unexcavated. Unfortunately, as is the case at many other sites, local residents have appropriated stones lying on the surface to remodel or expand their homes and other buildings. |
