Laodicea on the Lycus

This city is called “Laodicea on the Lycus” to distinguish it from other cities by the same name. The wealth of the city is obvious from its two theaters, multiple market-places (agoras), and multiple baths. Locations of the Ephesus Gate and the Syria Gate demonstrate that in pre-Roman times the walls encompassed a much larger city.
