As early as 1840, Edward Robinson identified Nebi Samwil as the most likely site for ancient Mizpah of Benjamin, and the site later received the endorsement of W. F. Albright. More recently, however, most favor Tell en-Nasbeh, a site near the southern edge of the Palestinian city of Ramallah, a few kilometers northeast of Nebi Samwil.
