Hippo (Hippo Regius)

Nestled at the southern end of the modern city of Anabba, Algeria, lie the ruins of
Hippo Regius, the see of Augustine, the famous bishop of North Africa in the fifth century.

Ancient Hippo, also known as “Hippo Regius” (Royal Hippo) was a city on the coast of Numidia in North Africa. Hippo is best known as the home of Augustine, the fifth-century bishop, theologian, and philosopher.
